Most companies that sell commercial signs do not build them. Work is brokered to a fabrication shop, often out of state, and the selling company handles design and installation around it. That arrangement works until something needs to change, at which point the timeline and the answers both belong to somebody else.
Pro-Care Sign manufactures in-house at its Chicago facility. Design, fabrication, permitting, and installation happen under one roof and one point of accountability, which is what makes it possible to adjust a detail mid-build, match a repair to an existing sign years later, or hold a schedule when a tenant opening date moves.
Have a sign design, a brand standard, or just a problem to solve? Tell us what you need built and we'll scope it.
Fabrication work spans exterior identification such as channel letters and cabinet signs, freestanding structures including monument and pylon signs, dimensional letters for lobbies and building faces, awnings, interior and ADA signage, and large-format printed graphics.
Fabrication covers aluminum, acrylic, steel, and printed substrates, with powder-coated and painted finishes matched to brand specifications. LED illumination is assembled and bench tested before a sign leaves the shop.
Most projects arrive as something short of a finished drawing. A logo that has never been rendered at ten feet wide, a brand guideline that does not cover exterior signage, or an idea described in a sentence. Pro-Care Sign's design team develops these into a professional sign design, working from your logo, brand colors, and message, and produces a scaled rendering showing the finished sign in position before anything is fabricated.
For clients working to an existing brand standard or an architect's specification, the same team produces the shop drawings that carry those requirements through to production.
| Advantage | What It Means in Practice |
|---|---|
| Schedule control | Production is scheduled against our own capacity rather than queued behind another shop's backlog, which matters when an opening date is fixed. |
| Change tolerance | A dimension, color, or mounting detail can be adjusted during the build instead of triggering a change order with an outside supplier. |
| Brand color accuracy | Finishes are matched in-house and recorded, so a replacement panel produced later matches the original rather than approximating it. |
| Repairability | Signs we build can be repaired and refaced years later against our own specifications, without reverse-engineering another company's construction. |
| Single accountability | Design, fabrication, permitting, and installation sit with one company, so a fault has one owner rather than a discussion between vendors. |
Fabrication is one stage of a longer sequence. A sign has to be permitted before it can go up, engineered for the surface it mounts to, and wired by a licensed electrician if it is illuminated. Holding an Illinois electrical contractor license lets us carry installation and permitting through to completion instead of handing a finished sign to a third party.
For clients, the practical effect is a single quote, a single schedule, and a single number to call when something needs attention.
Lead time depends on what is being built. Printed and applied work moves quickly. Fabricated illuminated signage takes longer, and freestanding structures requiring a foundation and municipal review take longest. These are typical ranges from approved design to completed installation:
| Sign Type | Typical Lead Time |
|---|---|
| Vinyl lettering and window graphics | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Banners | 1 to 4 weeks |
| Interior and ADA signage | 2 to 4 weeks |
| Digital printing | 2 to 5 weeks |
| Dimensional letters | 3 to 5 weeks |
| Awnings | 4 to 6 weeks |
| Neon and LED neon signs | 4 to 6 weeks |
| Channel letters | 4 to 8 weeks, depending on letter count and municipal permitting |
| Cabinet signs | 5 to 6 weeks |
| Electronic message centers | 6 to 7 weeks |
| Monument signs | 2 to 4 months, including foundation work and permit review |
| Pylon and pole signs | 2 to 4 months, including foundation work and permit review |
These are typical ranges rather than quoted delivery dates. Permitting is the most common cause of variation, and a municipality with a slow review cycle can extend a timeline regardless of how quickly a sign is built. Actual timing is confirmed against your specific project when you get in touch.
Work leaving the shop floor ranges from single storefront signs for independent businesses to fabrication runs for national retail and restaurant brands and multi-tenant developments, built to supplied brand standards. Target, Ulta Beauty, Forever 21, Buona Beef, and Smoothie King are among the brands whose Chicago-area signage we have fabricated.
Sign companies, general contractors, and architects sometimes need a fabrication partner rather than a full-service provider, particularly on projects where design and client relationship sit elsewhere but the build needs to happen locally.
Pro-Care Sign partners with wholesale companies and vendors on large-scale rollouts, producing to supplied specifications and brand standards. For a national program that needs consistent output across multiple Chicago-area sites, working with one local fabricator that also holds an electrical contractor license removes the coordination overhead of managing separate fabrication and installation vendors in each market.
We work from your artwork, brand standards, or a description of the requirement, and confirm size, materials, illumination, and finish.
Fabrication drawings are produced showing construction, dimensions, materials, and mounting method, for your approval and for permit submission.
The sign is built in-house. Metal is cut and formed, faces are produced, finishes are applied, and LED systems are installed.
Illuminated signs are powered and tested in the shop before shipping, so faults are found here rather than on a lift.
The completed sign is installed by our own crews, with electrical connection by licensed electricians.
Every sign we build is fabricated at our facility at 5563 N Elston Ave in Chicago, which keeps production, quality control, and the crews who install the finished work in the same place. Finished work goes out to clients across Chicago and the wider metro, including Skokie, Niles, Palatine, Northbrook, Schaumburg, Downers Grove, Arlington Heights, Wheaton, Elmhurst, Glenview, Hinsdale, Elk Grove Village, Oak Brook, Streamwood, Des Plaines, Mt Prospect, Berwyn, Hoffman Estates, and Morton Grove.

Signs are manufactured in-house at our Chicago facility. Design, fabrication, finishing, and LED assembly are done on site, and the same company handles permitting and installation.
Yes. Matching an existing sign requires the original specifications or a detailed survey of the installed sign, covering dimensions, materials, finish colors, and illumination type. Because we record finishes on signs we build, matching our own previous work is straightforward.
Yes. We fabricate to supplied drawings and brand standards, and produce shop drawings for approval before production begins so that construction details and mounting methods are agreed in advance.
Aluminum, acrylic, steel, and printed substrates, with powder-coated and painted finishes. Material selection is driven by whether a sign is interior or exterior, illuminated or not, and what the mounting conditions and local weather exposure require.
Yes. Permit applications are prepared and submitted as part of the project, including the electrical permit required for illuminated signage. Pro-Care Sign is a licensed Illinois electrical contractor and manages this directly.
