Sign installation is the stage where a project either goes smoothly or becomes expensive. A sign that arrives on site without an approved permit cannot go up. A sign engineered for a masonry wall cannot be hung on a curtain wall facade. An illuminated sign wired by someone without an electrical license is a code violation waiting to be found.
Pro-Care Sign manages installation as a coordinated project rather than a delivery. Site survey, engineering, permit applications, landlord approvals, access equipment, mounting, and electrical connection are handled by one company with a single point of contact.
The work is carried out by our own crews rather than subcontracted labor, using a fleet of service vehicles equipped for the range of conditions commercial installation puts in front of us, from a ground-level storefront to a fascia sign several stories up.
Have a sign that needs installing, or a project that needs managing end to end? Tell us the site and we'll scope the work.
The physical mounting is usually the shortest part of the job. Most of the work happens before the truck arrives:
| Stage | What It Covers |
|---|---|
| Site Survey | Measuring the mounting area, identifying the wall construction, locating existing electrical service, checking sightlines, and photographing conditions for the permit application. |
| Structural Assessment | Confirming the facade or foundation can carry the sign, and specifying anchors and hardware suited to that substrate. |
| Permit Application | Preparing drawings and submitting to the City of Chicago or the applicable municipality. Illuminated signs require an electrical permit in addition to the sign permit. |
| Landlord Approval | Submitting scaled renderings against the property's sign criteria where the space is leased. |
| Access Planning | Determining what equipment the height and position require, and arranging any street or lane closures needed to place it. |
| Mounting and Wiring | Setting the sign, anchoring to specification, and completing the electrical connection to code. |
| Inspection and Close-Out | Meeting the inspection requirement where applicable and confirming the sign operates as intended. |
Pro-Care Sign installs the full range of commercial signage. Installation method varies considerably by type — a raceway-mounted set of channel letters, a pole-mounted pylon requiring a concrete foundation, and an ADA room sign mounted at a regulated height beside a door are three different disciplines. Each is handled to the standard that type requires.
Installation is available whether or not Pro-Care Sign built the sign. Some projects run end to end with us, from fabrication through to the finished install. Others arrive as a completed sign from another manufacturer, a national brand's supplier, or a rollout vendor, and we handle the survey, permitting, mounting, and electrical connection from there.
For businesses working to a corporate brand program, that matters. National accounts frequently have signage produced centrally by a designated supplier and need a licensed local contractor to permit and install it to code. That is routine work here rather than an exception.
Most exterior commercial signage is illuminated, which makes sign installation an electrical trade as much as a mounting one. Many sign companies fabricate in-house but subcontract the electrical connection, which introduces a second vendor, a second schedule, and a gap in accountability when something does not work. Because the company holds an Illinois electrical contractor license, wiring, connection, and the electrical permits that go with them stay in house. That is also why parking lot lighting and other site electrical work can be taken on alongside signage rather than referred out.
National retail and service brands operating in the Chicago area have used Pro-Care Sign for installation work, built to their own sign criteria and rollout standards. Chase Bank, Target, CVS Pharmacy, Circle K, and Panera Bread are among the brands whose Chicago-area signage we have installed.
Installing one sign is a job. Installing the same sign across twelve locations in eight municipalities is a program, and the difficulty is rarely the mounting. Each municipality has its own sign ordinance, permit process, and review timeline, and each landlord has its own criteria and approval chain.
For multi-site work, Pro-Care Sign manages the permit applications, the landlord submissions, and the install scheduling as a coordinated sequence rather than a series of unconnected jobs.
We assess the location, take measurements, confirm mounting conditions, and document the electrical service available.
Scaled drawings are produced for permit submission and for landlord or property management approval.
Applications are filed with the applicable municipality. We track the review and respond to any comments raised.
Installation is scheduled once permits are issued, with access equipment and any required closures arranged in advance.
The sign is mounted and wired by our crews, with the electrical connection completed by licensed electricians.
What determines whether we can install a sign is usually access and height rather than distance. Storefront work, high-rise fascia signs, and pole-mounted signage each need different equipment, and we bring what the site requires. Installation crews work throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, including Skokie, Niles, Palatine, Northbrook, Schaumburg, Downers Grove, Arlington Heights, Wheaton, Elmhurst, Glenview, Hinsdale, Elk Grove Village, Oak Brook, Streamwood, Des Plaines, Mt Prospect, Berwyn, Hoffman Estates, and Morton Grove.
Rolling out signage across several sites? We'll handle the permits, landlord approvals, and install scheduling as one coordinated program.
Pro-Care Sign prepares and submits the permit applications as part of the installation. That includes the sign permit and, for illuminated signage, the electrical permit. We track the application through review and respond to municipal comments rather than passing that back to the client.
The installation itself is usually completed in a day for most storefront signage. The overall timeline is driven by permit review rather than by the mounting, and that varies by municipality. Freestanding signs requiring a concrete foundation take longer because the foundation must cure before the sign is set.
Yes. Height and access determine the equipment required rather than whether the work can be done. Sites needing lift equipment, or a street or lane closure to place that equipment, are planned and permitted as part of the installation schedule.
In most leased commercial space, yes. Sign criteria in the lease typically govern permitted sign types, maximum dimensions, and mounting methods. Pro-Care Sign prepares scaled drawings for landlord or property management approval as a standard step before fabrication begins.
Installations completed to code and to the approved drawings are not expected to fail inspection. Where a municipality raises a comment, Pro-Care Sign addresses it directly as part of the project rather than treating it as a separate engagement.
Send us the site address and what you're installing. We'll follow up with a survey date and an expected permit timeline.
